These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so. — Acts 17:11
The Bereans were commended not just for listening, but for checking what they were taught against Scripture itself. Their example reminds us that discernment requires both humility and diligence.
Start here:
What does “searching the Scriptures daily” look like in your own life?
Maybe 4 or so years ago, Brandon asked ab New Years resolutions and that he may read the Bible cover to cover that year (Brandon not sure if my memory is correct). Anyway, I did this. And have each year since then. When “life comes up” I am able to find comfort in familiarity- does that make sense?
I can appreciate the concept of daily scripture reading, however, we must also think back to the time. I am sure life was a bit less fast paced so to speak. I try hard to read this site everyday, but that is not even possible and I consider myself slow paced. I also think that reflecting on the day or an event and using our spirit to discern is trying to “study scripture daily”. at least that will be my answer when the time comes.
To be honest, I am consistently inconsistent. At least I have some consistency in my life .
It’s been weighing on me to set aside time daily for His Word like I used to. Life is good but is busier now than ever, which is why I need the daily dose of His word even more. No excuses, I’m back on the train!
What does it mean to examine the scriptures daily?
Here’s my view.
2Tim 2:15:
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
As we put into practice what we’ve learned, our example will naturally influence others in our community.
James 1:22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
We also need to study God’s word daily because we need it to survive!
Listen to what The Living Word said:
John 6:51
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
I read it as much as I can, when I can’t get sleep, I read, when I arrive from work i read, sometimes I don’t feel like reading, I don’t read. My current situation allows me to read a bit through the day. When I trust in God, whatever the hour be(in the night) , if I read He gives me sleep after that. Never fails. But if I don’t trust in Him wholly, as a good Father he doesn’t give. I say this because I know that if I read with my whole heart He helps me always, the thing is that sometimes I, in my infirmity think I can negotiate with Him. Just like, if I read a bit He can grant me this. But God knows all, it doesn’t work. You have to read to seek The Lord fully. It is the best Father in the universe.
