The “tribulation ten days” referred to John’s era, not our own. It was a statement to the church of Smyrna to warn them of Satan’s travails.

I’m still a little confused with this. I keep going back in my mind thinking “history repeats itself”. How do we know that Jesus, speaking through John was only speaking of that current time - the church of Smyrna 2,000 years ago. I think I need to study this a bit more to wrap my head around it.
