As to who owned the Gaza area first, that would be Israel, predating the Arab takeover by 1,000 years. And, Gaza is part of the land of Canaan given to Israel by Covenant promise to Abraham-Isaac-Jacob/Israel (Gen. 35:10, 12).

Do I support Israel and pray for their peace? Yes. Do I think they’ve made many poor choices over their history? Definitely. But so have I, and He shed His blood for my sins…so very grateful. 
I think one has to look back at all the events that led up to Hamas getting into Palestine as their representation. The majority did not want them in. There was much influence by the west which led up to the present problems.
Hamas is labeled as a terrorist group, which I agree they are, but given the actions of our nation sticking its nose into the affairs of others, we could be considered the same? How many countries have we invaded, with hidden agendas, killing many people, all for the statement, “for the greater good”? (Should we flatten a democratic city due to the crimes committed by a cartel let in by those in charge?) (We took more care in our involvement in the Middle East, but now it is okay to support Israel in killing innocents?)
Agreements were established for the 2-nation state, which Israel, over time, broke most of them. Then the west always got involved, including the UN and Europe.
Does anyone realize that even though it was supposed to be a 2-nation state, Israel controls all the water going into Palestine? Many have to buy water, the ones who can afford it, brought in by tanker trucks. They have to wash their clothes using dirty bath water, etc.
Israel is basically trying to drought them out and take more land ignoring the agreements. This water problem was supposed to be settled in 1999 and to date has not.
Historically, the Lord threw “His chosen” out of the promised land. Brought them back after the captivity punishment, and they stuck their finger in His eye ever since. They brought all the Babylonian nonsense with them.

I think the statement being made is due to the reaction of the Christian right, not really having heart felt remorse on seeing the destruction and burden put on a people in that area. Their actions speak of where their heart is. We all want peace but to fund the killing, to me, doesn’t show true character.
