God can punish us when we sin. However, that does not mean the troubles in your life are from God. He does not burden us, and we often bring on our own troubles.

He does discipline those He loves (Hebrews 12:6), just as we would discipline our children. Discipline does not mean punishment. It means correction. However, there are consequences to our sin, this is why we should immediately confess our sins and He is faithfull and just to forgive us for our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Then make it right with those you sinned against.
