The family of some dear friends of ours ran a mom-and-pop fish hatchery. They still don’t have phone or cell service in their area, and we went to help them install a star link system.
Their hatchery was a local and tourist attraction in the mountains where you could come and fish for fresh trout, have them cleaned and picnic there, or just catch and release. It was such a beautiful area, but after the storm which caused a mud slide, it will never be the same.
We drove to the top of the mountain to see where the slide started and there were probably at least 20 places where the slide came over the road and took out one lane of travel. It was surreal to see and the pictures do not do it justice.
This is where the slide started near the top.
This is a pic from further down the mountain when it came near homes and the fish farm. You can see the size of the normal stream and the swath of destruction
This pic is another stream that runs on the other side of what used to be the fish farm. When the flood came, the owners could feel the house shake and hear the boulders tumbling down the mountain.
The small mobile home on the right is where a gentleman lived who helped on the farm. He had to crawl out the back when it hit to escape. Luckly to make it out. The one on the left was pushed 35 feet into the woods and had to be pulled out with machinery.
The owner’s home is behind this one. They are the only 2 that are livable. The pile of debris is what is left of several buildings that were once the fish farm and hatchery.
Other homes were destroyed.
This is where the small fishing pond once was surrounded by trees.
Logs piled up by the water.
Down near the bottom is a local church and campgrounds. The one is totally gone.
These people need to be in our prayers.
